March 2026 Bank Holidays in India
March 2026 has an unusually high number of bank holidays due to the coincidence of Holi (national), several regional New Year festivals, and Good Friday late in the month. Here is the complete state-wise holiday list based on RBI's negotiated instrument holiday calendar:
National Holidays (All Banks Closed)
- March 14 (Saturday): Holi — all states
- March 29 (Sunday): Good Friday — most states (banking holiday where applicable)
Major Regional Holidays
- March 22 (Sunday): Gudi Padwa / Ugadi — Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana
- March 25 (Wednesday): Ram Navami — Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal
- March 30 (Monday): Panguni Uthiram — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh (partial)
- March 31 (Tuesday): Eid-ul-Fitr — all states (subject to moon sighting)
Online and Digital Banking
NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS are available 24×7 — even on bank holidays — for digital transactions. However, cheque clearances, demand drafts, and physical branch services will not be available on declared holidays. Loan disbursals, fixed deposit renewals, and KYC document submissions require branch availability — plan accordingly.
ATM and UPI During Holidays
ATMs, debit card/credit card transactions, and UPI payments operate normally on all holidays. However, some bank ATMs may run out of cash if restocking is delayed over extended holiday periods. The RBI has asked all banks to ensure adequate ATM cash loading ahead of Holi and the Eid holiday cluster at month-end.
Key Month-End Reminder
March 31 is the financial year-end. With Eid-ul-Fitr potentially falling on the same day, there is a risk of congestion at branches for tax-related transactions, advance tax payments, and year-end banking. RBI has asked public sector banks to keep selected branches open for extended hours on March 28–30 to ease the load.
